Rustic Roots Design

Hello! My name is Janel and I am so glad you've stopped by! I am a mom to four amazing children who are 19, 17, 10, and 4 years old. I was raised in the country. I played outside daily, rode 4-wheelers, went barefoot, jumped off piers in the Pamlico River, and watched my dad work hard earning his living as a commercial fisherman. That way of life may seem like a thing of the past, but I am proud of my childhood experience. My mom became a registered nurse after having five children (spaced out over 18 years), and she made time for several hobbies of sewing clothing and dolls, wood-working, cooking and baking.

I am grateful that there were no cell phones in my early years. Life was not perfect, yet it seems like it was when I reminisce on times past. You can take your rustic roots, that make up who you are, and create goodness in your life and in the lives of those around you. Life can be rich in so many ways and using those experiences for good makes all the difference in the world. 🌸

For my day to day job, I'm a school teacher! I've taught 5th grade (all subjects), 3rd, 2nd, and 1st. Currently, I teach 5th & 6th grade ELA and Science. I've been in education for 13 years and love to create my own resources to use with my students. For those interested, I have a TPT store under the name "Golden Edventures." :)

My Craft Hobbies: wood crafts (including custom ornaments and signs), earrings, sewing, digital art, tie-dye, and making anything on my own. In the early 2000s, I had a graphic art/labels/stationery store on Etsy named "Belly Tickles." I digitally drew a lot of my own clipart to use with my products. I'm excited to get back to crafting on a regular basis!
